Thanks to modern advancements in surgical technique and anesthesia, buttock implant surgery has become a safe and reliable solution. The use of an endoscope ensures precise implant placement and minimizes the risk of deformity. Specialized anesthesia protocols significantly reduce postoperative pain, making this procedure more accessible and comfortable than ever before.
What Are Buttock Implants?
Gluteal implants are designed to increase the volume of the upper portion of the buttocks using cohesive silicone gel implants placed within the gluteus maximus muscle. This intricate procedure delivers excellent aesthetic results when performed correctly.
- Surgery is performed under general or regional anesthesia
- Duration: approximately 1.5 hours
- Even with general anesthesia, epidural analgesia may be offered to minimize pain during recovery
We make two 6 cm incisions hidden in the gluteal crease—an improvement over the original Brazilian technique. This method offers two major advantages:
- Reduces tension on each scar to prevent wound opening
- Preserves the natural gluteal fold, avoiding unsightly detachment
Precise, Muscle-Safe Placement
A key component of the procedure is creating a pocket within the muscle—not outside of it. If the implant is not placed precisely, it can move or appear deformed during movement, especially in the lateral buttocks. To ensure accuracy, we use a camera or endoscope, which:
- Helps visualize blood vessels for proper cauterization
- Ensures that the implant stays strictly within the gluteal muscle
We use high-cohesiveness implants from POLYTECH, typically ranging from 300 to 500 cc. Larger implants (up to 800 cc) can be ordered as custom implants for select cases.
The Procedure and Recovery
- A pre-anesthesia consultation is required at least 48 hours before surgery
- Hospital stay: 1 to 2 nights
- Post-op pain management is a top priority and includes:
- IV pain relief
- Optional epidural catheter for advanced comfort
For the first 3 days, sitting is not allowed. Patients are advised to alternate between lying on their stomach, lying on their sides, or standing.
At-Home Care and Recovery
- A home nurse is required to assist with wound care until stitches are removed (around 15 days post-op)
- Most patients return to work within 7 to 15 days, depending on job activity
Physical activity and sports may be resumed after 1 month

What are the possible complications?
This is a complex procedure that requires dedicated post-operative care. The most common issues include:
- Pain, especially along the sciatic nerve
→ Managed with advanced anesthetic techniques - Scar reopening, particularly at the gluteal fold
→ Prevented by not sitting for 7 days and following strict wound care protocols
What is the lifespan of buttock implants?
On average, buttock implants last around 15 years. Unlike breast implants, capsular contracture (“shell”) is not a documented risk with gluteal implants.
Are there alternatives?
Yes. Lipomodelling (fat transfer) is the main alternative to gluteal implants; however, it is a dangerous procedure which we discourage.”
Other options, like Macrolane® injections, are not recommended due to their short duration (about 1 year) and high cost (around €3,000 for the product alone).
What is the cost?
Buttock implant surgery is a high-investment procedure due to its complexity and extended recovery:
