Average Lifespan
The average lifespan of modern breast implants is typically 10 to 15 years.
That said, many women safely keep their implants much longer, while others may need a replacement sooner due to complications.
Regular monitoring is essential.
We recommend:
- Annual clinical check-ups
- Breast ultrasound every year
- MRI scans every 3 years starting from the 5th year after surgery
Factors That Affect Implant Longevity
1. Patient-Specific Tolerance
Everybody is different.
Some women may develop capsular contracture (scar tissue), which can cause premature implant wear or distortion.
Others may keep the same implants for 20+ years without any issues.
2. Implant Quality
The durability of a breast implant largely depends on its manufacturing quality.
Thanks to modern materials, improved engineering, and stricter safety standards, today’s implants are far more resistant to wear, rupture, and degradation than earlier generations — leading to longer-lasting results.
3.Physical Activity
High-impact activities or chest trauma may reduce the lifespan of breast implants.
