The Principles of Filler Injections
Hyaluronic acid fillers are injectable medical devices designed to smooth wrinkles, restore volume, and enhance facial contours. These treatments are non-surgical, quick, and offer immediate, natural-looking results.
We primarily use two types of resorbable hyaluronic acid fillers:
- Juvederm® (by Allergan)
- Restylane® (by Galderma)
Both are well-tolerated and typically last 8 to 12 months, depending on the product used and the area treated.

Commonly Treated Areas
Hyaluronic acid injections can address a wide variety of aesthetic concerns, including:
Wrinkles and folds:
- Nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the mouth)
- Marionette lines (lines extending downward from the corners of the mouth)
- Crow’s feet
- Frown lines
- Fine lines on the forehead and cheeks
Volume loss:
- Cheeks
- Chin
- Lips
- Under-eye hollows (with caution)
- Tear troughs
- Cheekbones
Fillers can also be used in combination with other non-surgical treatments such as Botox, chemical peels, or skin resurfacing to enhance overall facial rejuvenation.
Before the Injection
If you’re sensitive to needles, we recommend applying Emla® anesthetic cream to the treatment area one hour before your appointment to minimize discomfort.
What to Expect During the Procedure
- Injections are performed in the office and usually take 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of areas treated.
- The skin is disinfected and, if necessary, marked for precision.
- A very fine needle or cannula is used to inject the filler into targeted areas.
You can return to normal activities immediately after the session, though mild redness or swelling may occur temporarily.
Aftercare
- For the first six hours, rest and avoid strenuous activity.
- Refrain from touching or massaging the treated area for 24 hours.
- Temporary side effects may include mild swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness, usually resolving within 1–3 days.
Possible Side Effects
Most side effects are mild and temporary, but some potential risks include:
- Swelling or redness at the injection site
- Cold sore flare-ups (in individuals with herpes simplex virus)
- Lumpiness or irregularities during the first few days (usually due to localized edema)
- Granulomas (rare inflammatory nodules)
- Inflammatory reactions in areas previously injected with non-resorbable fillers
- Vascular embolisation
- Peri-orbital complications: We avoid injecting into the tear trough or dark circles area due to the risk of prolonged inflammation, embolisation or fat diffusion.
For unwanted or persistent results, hyaluronidase can be injected to dissolve the hyaluronic acid safely.
Can Filler Injections Be Repeated?
Yes—filler injections can be repeated, but moderation is key.
Although hyaluronic acid is naturally resorbable, it contains chemical stabilizers (BDDE) that may lead to chronic inflammation if used excessively. Overuse or repeated treatments with different practitioners may create skin that looks shiny or swollen.
We advise patients to track their injection history in a “beauty passport” or treatment logbook to ensure safe and consistent care.
How to Avoid an Unnatural Look
Natural-looking results come from:
- Customized treatment plans
- Precise product placement
- Conservative volume use
Overcorrection can lead to unnatural appearances such as a “duck lip” or “puffy cheeks.” We aim to enhance rather than radically alter your features.
Pricing
- Nasolabial folds: €450
- Lip augmentation: €450
- Full-face treatments and multiple zones may vary in cost depending on product volume and treatment goals.
On average, hyaluronic acid injections should be repeated 2 to 3 times per year for optimal maintenance.
